“Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.”
James 1:19 · KJVThe lie
Force proves strength and anger gives me control.
The truth
Unruled anger makes a man easy to control. Spirit-governed strength listens, slows down, and speaks truth without destruction.
Reason it through
Truth must govern the response.
Anger often reveals a threatened desire beneath the surface. A mature man examines that desire before he makes another person pay for it.
Battle plan
Practice before pressure.
- 1Pause before answering.
- 2Name the fear or desire beneath the anger.
- 3Use words that repair rather than punish.
- 4Seek reconciliation without excusing sin.
A prayer to begin
“God, govern my strength and make me slow to wrath.”
